AP CALULUS

Hey guys did you read aboutthis interesting part in the book which is called the Class Act which is about Faraday who did a small experiment where he took a bar magnet and weighed in down on one of its end and he wanted to place it in a pool of mercury, the bar magnet would float upright and this is very cool. With this experimetn he had conveyed that his magnetic tornado theory had created the world's first motor.

All the books have been put in the mail as of yesterday . When you receive yours, let me know on the blog or by my email. I have read the 5 Equations book and am now reading it a second time to keep a log of key events and my reactions--I recommend that you all do this as you read. Meanwhile, I am just getting the AP exam scores from last May via the apcentral email system. So far no one has scored a 3 from the class of 2010. I knew it was a tough exam, but I am bummed by the low scores I've seen so far. I do know that starting the course with a grasp of pre-calculus concepts will help hugely and the 40 practice problems I sent you are a pretty good review of what you need to know. Don't neglect practice over the summer. On a happier note, in spite of the heat, my garden looks great and I have harvested 800 bulbs of garlic!

Hello

Hello, I'm new to this. I'ver never blogged before. So are we using this blog to post thoughts and questions about the books that we're suppose to read over the summer regarding Calculus? Is there an official assignment for the books, or is it just casual responding to the books? -Wen Jiang

Hello out there...?

Hey--Another thought. It is okay to have a "conversation"on this blog. I now am wondering if any of you have tried to post yet. When you read this, just post a greeting so I know you can get onto the blogspace. Thanks, now for those weeds...

July 1st!

Hi all-- Yesterday I received a shipment of a second book that I am sending along to you. This one is a "math reference" book for calculus. Don't laugh (or cry!) when you see that it starts with a chapter on fractions. Actually, it will prove to be a useful handbook as we go through the course and this summer it will aid you in completing the practicebook that I am sending. Of course, now I have to go to Staples and buy a bigger mailing envelope for all of you, so you won't get your books until next week at best. When you do get the summer mailing, send me an email so I know you have the stuff. I know many of you are at Scholars, UConn or other adventures. Just let me know when you do finally get the readings in your hands. I've finished the 5 equations book and look forward to your reactions to it. Don't be surprised if it seems like you are reading about the history of science, European hi story, etc. you are! Now it is too nice a day to miss "exercising" in my garden. More at a later time.
